What is Numerology

By:  Mr. Numerology

What is Numerology?

For all that we know about numerology, there is much that we don't know, namely, exactly where it came from, and precisely how it works. We do know that numerology works!

Numerology has been defined as the study of the occult significance of numbers.

Years of study by numerologists and confirmation by their clients shows us that numerology is an effective way to learn about your personality. It isolates your various potentials and shows how they harmonize and conflict with each other. Where the potentials (or energies) harmonize, the numerology chart will show how to take advantage of your strengths. Where the potentials conflict, the chart will offer suggestions for overcoming obstacles that may be in your way.

A brief history of Numerology

The history of numerology is somewhat murky. Some numerologists claim that numerology dates back over 10,000 years to Kabbalah, a form of Jewish mysticism. Others claim a link to the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras, who lived about 2,500 years ago. While these are romantic notions, no one can forge a direct link between modern numerology and ancient Judaism or the Greeks

More recently, the origins of the modern study of numerology is credited to L. Dow Balliett, an American from Atlantic City, New Jersey, who wrote a number of books on the subject in the early 1900's. While Mrs. Balliett gives credit to Pythagoras for the development of her ideas, there isn't any evidence of Pythagoras developing numerology as we understand it today.

Dr. Julia Seton helped publicize Balliett's work, and this was followed by books by Florence Campbell, Juno Jordan, Matthew Goodwin, and others.

How Numerology works?

I present my own theories on how numerology does work below:

- Eastern philosophy tells us that the physical world isn't real. The reality that we experience is created by Maya. Meher Baba, an Eastern mystic said:

"Maya is not illusion; it is the creator of illusion. Maya is not false; it is that which gives false impressions. Maya is not unreal; it is that which makes the real appear unreal and the unreal appear real. Maya is not duality; it is that which causes duality."

- Within our so-called physical world, we can describe an object in terms of:

1. Volume and Geometry: The space the object takes up and what form it takes.
2. Location and Time: Where the object is located in space and time.

- Both of these descriptions can be converted to numbers. In fact, everything that exists can be converted to numbers, because numbers and mathematics are the framework on which reality is constructed.

David Bohm and other physicists assert that the physical world is actually an intricate hologram. Holograms are created by firing two laser beams at an object and recording interference pattern created by the beams onto a piece of film. The interference pattern looks something like ripples on a pond after a few pebbles have been thrown in.

An example:
At the root level, the interference pattern is just information; only when the hologram is properly viewed, it appears to be tri-dimensional. One interesting characteristic of a hologram is that every piece of a hologram contains all the information of the entire hologram. If you cut a hologram in half, you can view the entire image simply by moving the film.

In the same way, the reality behind our reality is information, information that is constantly active and changing. The tri-dimensional reality that you walk around in is a well-crafted hologram that exists only because you can perceive it.

Like a hologram, all of the information that is in the universe is contained in any part of the universe. That's why different methods of divination work. Whether it is numerology, I-Ching, astrology, tarot, or even reading tortoise shells, information can be gathered from any source, as long as you know how to crack the code.

How a Numerology report is derived?

Numerology reports are derived from your birth name and your date of birth. This information is translated into numbers. These numbers are the starting point for the mathematical equations that produce the information used to create the report.

Numerology and reincarnation

As mentioned earlier, numerology attempts to isolate the different potentials at play in a person's life. The main focus of someone's lifetime might be to learn to deal with responsibility. Because the purpose of reincarnation is for the soul to experience opposite impressions in various lives, the focus in a previous life time might have been expressing the joy of living. A future life may focus on material attainment.

Numerology will also pinpoint obstacles in this life that came about as a result of misapplication of a particular energy in a past life (Karmic Debts), well as the lessons that need to be learned because a person has not been exposed to particular energy in a past life (Karmic Lessons). While these can be considerable obstacles, your numerology chart will offer suggestions on how to overcome them.
